Optima Engineering is a local premiere MEP firm established in 1992, and is recognized as a regional leader in sustainable engineering. Optima’s primary Mission is to provide high performance, sustainable, efficient engineering design for all building types so that owners and occupants use less resources while maintaining high quality buildings.

Optima also has a second Mission, and that is to the community. We believe in giving back, and we do it both financially as well as through employee volunteer events. We also believe that we have a mission to encourage behavior change towards our environment and make teaching our clients and others in the industry an ongoing commitment.

Our Vision is to be a regional leader in the Net Zero Energy building environment, both in new as well as existing construction. To have a positive and lasting impact on the built environment by leading the way for multiple owners and buildings to transform their buildings to Carbon Neutral structures.

While our engineers can design systems for buildings the same way that we did 25 years ago, which a lot of engineering firms do, the engineers at Optima strive to design systems using the best technology that is available that is tested and works. The “change” that was mentioned earlier, we want to provide better buildings than we did in the 90’s. We strive to provide buildings that will operate well into the future without major modifications.

Optima has 59 employees including 21 licensed Professional Engineers, 21 LEED Accredited Professionals, 1 Registered Communications Distribution Designer, 2 Commissioning Agents, and 3 Certified Energy Managers.

The Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit professional society of over 16,000 members in 89 countries. The mission of AEE is “to promote the scientific and educational interests of those engaged in the energy industry and to foster action for Sustainable Development.”

The AEE is your source for information and networking in the dynamic fields of energy engineering and energy management, renewable and alternative energy, power generation, energy services, sustainability, and all related areas. Founded in 2013, AEE North Carolina Piedmont Chapter (AEE-NCPC) is the local chapter of the national Associates of Energy Engineers (AEE), covering the western part of North Carolina.

The Chapter presents education programs related to the energy industry, provides networking opportunities between a wide variety of industries, including building and associate industry professionals, educators, lawmakers, and the community, fosters cooperative action between its members and other industries and organizations, and supports scholarships.

Our work is made possible by funding from partnership and donations, national and individual memberships, program revenues and grants.
